About YardCrafter

Free, fast material calculators for people doing the work themselves.

YardCrafter is a small collection of building and landscaping calculators for concrete, mulch, gravel, topsoil, sand, pavers and lumber. It exists because ordering materials should not require a spreadsheet or a sales call — just a few measurements and a clear answer.

Why we built it

Most material calculators online belong to a local supplier and are really lead-capture forms: you enter your project, then hand over a phone number or email to see the result. Others are buried under thousands of words of filler. We wanted the opposite — the tool first, on the first screen, with the answer in seconds. No sign-up. No email. Just the number you came for.

How the calculators work

Everything runs in your browser using standard geometry: volume equals area times depth, converted into the units suppliers actually use — cubic yards, tons, and bags of a given size. We show the density and bag-yield assumptions on each page so you can check our math or substitute your supplier’s exact figures. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored on a server; the calculation happens on your device.

Our approach to accuracy

Material densities vary with moisture, grade and how tightly something is packed, so every result is an estimate for planning. We state the assumption behind each conversion, default to a sensible waste factor, and tell you to confirm with your supplier before ordering. Where a figure is a rule of thumb, we say so.

Who it is for

Homeowners tackling a weekend patio, gardeners filling raised beds, and tradespeople who want a quick second check. If you can measure a length, a width and a depth, these tools will tell you what to buy.
